Understanding Merle Poodles
Merle Poodles are indeed purebred dogs, recognized for their unique and eye-catching coat patterns. The merle gene creates a marbled or mottled appearance with patches, dots, spots and dashes of lighter and darker colour—seen in shades of blue, chocolate, red, or black.
The merle gene is an incomplete dominate gene, meaning it can manifest even only one parent carries it. The gene can also affect skin pigment.
While not accepted by all show standards, Merle Poodles are fully purebred and share the same intelligence, temperament, and trainability that make Poodles one of the world’s most beloved breeds.
Their distinctive coat pattern and sometimes striking blue or two-toned eyes give each Merle Poodle a look that’s as unique as their personality and make them truly one-of-a-kind companions—beautiful inside and out.
